Ambassador KUROKI Message from Ambassador KUROKI

Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia.

In recent years, Cambodia has achieved political stability and remarkable levels of reconstruction. With its society more vibrant than ever and its economy expanding satisfactorily, the country is now showing substantial change. As a representative of Japan, I am honored to be responsible, in such an exciting time, for diplomatic relations between Japan and Cambodia.

Diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan were established in 1953. Since the early 1990s in particular, Japan has offered various kinds of support to the reconstruction and development of Cambodia, such as the first-ever contributions overseas by Japanfs Self Defense Forces as part of United Nations peace keeping operations, implementation of support projects by the Japanese Government and non-governmental organizations, cooperation in the conservation and restoration of the Angkor site, contributions towards the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) and so on.

Now, Japan is paying great attention to the development of the Mekong region including Cambodia and focusing on strengthening its relations with the areas. I am keen to see that trade and investment relations between our two countries are promoted, given the entry into force, in 2008, of the Agreement between Japan and Cambodia for the Liberalization, Promotion and Protection of Investment.

Our Embassy will make efforts, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japanese companies and residents in Cambodia, to further strengthen bilateral ties between Cambodia and Japan. I would also like to welcome Japanese people from outside of Cambodia to come and visit and to work with us to promote friendly and cooperative relations between our two countries.
