Cambodia - Japan Friendship Year 2008


1- What is “Cambodia - Japan Friendship Year 2008” ?

January 9, 2008 marked the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan. A Commemorative Ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. During the ceremony, congratulatory messages from H.E. Mr. Masahiko Koumura, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, were exchanged by H.E. Mr. Katsuhiro Shinohara, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Long Visalo, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Their Excellencies declared the commencement of “Cambodia-Japan Friendship Year 2008”, which aims to promote people-to-people exchange programs in various fields, such as economics, culture, arts, science, sports and tourism.




In order to encourage the participation of Japanese and Cambodian people in the exchange programs and the smooth organization of the events, the Joint-Committee for Friendship Year 2008 has been established. The Joint-Committee is co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Katsuhiro Shinohara, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Long Visalo, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Members come from the Royal Government of Cambodia and from among the Japanese community in Cambodia. The Joint-Committee will play an active role in energizing “Friendship Year 2008”, encouraging the public to organize exchange programs and endorsing events as part of “Friendship Year 2008”. The Embassy of Japan in Cambodia and the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) will act as the Secretariat of the Joint-Committee.

4- Application for Event Endorsement for “Cambodia-Japan Friendship Year 2008”

The Joint-Committee will endorse any event that meets the “Guideline: Application for Endorsement”. The endorsed event will be allowed to use the official logo and will be included on the event schedule of “Cambodia-Japan Friendship Year 2008” on the official website of the Secretariat of the Joint-Committee (website under construction).
